Land Use Choices Matter
Why can't we use solar power to meet all of our power demands? Maybe all those solar panels we would need would just take up too much space. Or maybe not. Wired Science points out that we already use 17 times more land area to feed our pets than it would take to generate enough electricity for the whole US. So maybe it's more about the land use choices we make (or that we don't realize we are making). That's not to say that we should stop feeding pets to generate electricity. We should just take an honest look at how we are using our land now before we decide that we do or do not have enough land to meet our electricity needs with solar power.

I totally disagree. We should stop feeding pets. Either that or we had better start eating them.
ReplyDeleteFunny you should mentioned that. I was just reading Jonathan Safran Foer's new book Eating Animals where he lays out "A case for eating dogs." Here's a quote:
ReplyDelete"Unlike all farmed meat, which requires the creation and maintenance of animals, dogs are practically begging to be eaten. Three to four million dogs and cats are euthanized annually. This amounts to millions of pounds of meat now being thrown away every year."
